Community Bank of San Joaquin – First Local Bank to Offer Health Savings Accounts Posted Wednesday, September 22, 2004
In response to customer requests, Community Bank of San Joaquin started offering Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) earlier this year. Participants in qualifying high deductible health plans are now able to choose a local financial institution to administer their Health Savings Accounts. Local health benefits professionals working with Community Bank have been able to serve local business owners and individuals so they can reap the tax benefits of these new opportunities.

Health Savings Accounts are designed as a tool to save for health care expenses for individuals and families who participate in qualifying high deductible health plans. An HSA is a tax-exempt custodial account that is typically funded to cover the out-of-pocket medical costs that would be associated with a higher deductible insurance plan. The recent federal tax law changes enacted through the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act expanded the audience of the similar Archer Medical Savings Account (MSA) that was the HSA's predecessor.

"It is amazing to see the increase in popularity in the Health Savings Account in just the past few months" said Marti Denk, Chief Operating Officer of Community Bank. "We were excited to be able to use our Bank's technology to create this product quickly in response to our customers' needs. We anticipate solid growth in this area as more and more people become aware of this new health insurance option," she said.

More information about HSAs can be obtained by contacting Community Bank of San Joaquin at 209-956-7000, visiting the Bank's website at www.cbsjbank.com or by contacting a health insurance provider.

Community Bank of San Joaquin, located at 22 West Yokuts Avenue, Stockton opened in 1999. Locally owned and locally managed, Community Bank is truly a "full service bank". It offers a variety of business and personal banking services, including commercial lending and trust and investment services.
