A vision for future of finance (Reprinted from The Record, August 1, 2005)
The baton passing last month at Community Bank of San Joaquin was significant on two fronts. Joe Crane is a long-time local banking legend as well as a key civic supporter in the city of Stockton. He previously served a very distinguished term as chief executive officer of Union Safe Deposit Bank in Stockton. He was named Stocktonian of the Year in 2001. Jane Butterfield takes over for Crane as CEO. Today is her first
business day in the new position. She retains her title as bank president. She is one of only a few women bank presidents in California. Crane retired as CEO at Union Safe in 1996 after serving in various roles for the bank for almost 20 years. He ran the United Way of San Joaquin County for a short period before resigning to help start Community Bank. Butterfield also has a long history in Stockton banking, starting with Stockton Savings in
1984. Her ascendancy to the top role at Community Bank is well earned. "It's always a sad time when somebody that was instrumental in founding the bank leaves, so we're all a little sentimental about that," said Kathleen Lagorio Janssen, vice chairwoman of the bank's board of directors. "But the bank's had great success and is performing very well. We've got good leadership in place." Crane, meanwhile, can still be expected to be the same
tireless community leader he has been in the past. We wish him all the best. << Return to What Others Are Saying |
